ACADEMY GRADUATES WITH GB UNDER 20’S.
Chris and John Bateman will continue their basketball education playing for Curtis Xavier at the City of Nottingham Basketball Club. The twin brothers will study HND/HNC at South Notts College and play in the National League Division 3 men’s competition. Both players have been included by Head Coach Jeff Jones in the GB U20’s squad for the coming year. Paul Kelly rounds out a trio of Gwent graduates at the City of Nottingham Basketball Club.

Premier League Basketball arrives in Cwmbran.
After two season playing conference basketball, ABC Gwent were invited by England Basketball to make an application to play in the Southwest Premier Division of the Under 18 English League structure. In early July news arrived that ABC Gwent had been promoted to the Premier Division and would compete against the best teams in the Southwest week in week out. A mouth watering opener against Reading Rockets, one of last years final 4 squads, is just one fixture that sparks the imagination.
Coach Vic Fleming said “For the players this is the stage they need to be playing on if they want to fulfill their potential”. “Now the hard work must start in order to compete at this level”.
The past two season saw Gwent finish runners up in the Western Conference. Both post season’s resulted in playoff exits to East London Royals.

Doorsteps Sandwich Bar & Coffee Shop has become the first local company to put its name behind the developing basketball programme at Fairwater High School. Doorsteps located at 14 Fairwater Square will be the clubs kit sponsor for the 2006 / 2007 season. Vic Fleming, ABC Gwent’s coach said “its great to get a local business involved with the programme, youth sport is an expensive proposition yet it is a key part in a young persons development”.
