ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE SEASON AT A GLANCE.

PREMIER LEAGUE BASKETBALL COME TO CWMBRAN.

Between 2004 and 2006 ABC Gwent played its basketball in the Western Conference in England Basketball’s junior national league.  The U18 programme had finished second in both 2004 / 2005 and 2005 / 2006 and was invited by England Basketball to apply to play in the Premier League, a pretty good indication that the programme was going in the right direction.

So a 7th place finish in Gwent first season at the “top table” was a credit to the players and coaching staff.  The loss of Appollo Gayle, Nathanial Lawrence and Dominic Allen at Christmas would have crippled most squads.  With the addition of Sam Trueman, Annureet Bajwa and Martin Pimm the squad continued to develop and be competitive.  Teams placed from 3rd to 7th inclusive could beat each other on any given day.  Reading were head and shoulders above the rest cruising to the league title.

Outside of the 16 games played in the National League, ABC Gwent played another 37 games to complete a full season schedule of 53 games.  The final record for the squad this season:

30 – 23
